The report this week in the British newspaper The Guardian that President Bush gave orders in July giving US special forces carte blanche to mount operations in Pakistan will come as no suprise to those that are watching the situation in Pakistan.
These orders were given at a time when the American administration, which was suggesting in July that Pakistan was a key ally and partner in the American plan, was actually treating Pakistan as a target for operations while declaring its support for the new “democratic” government.
