London, UK, January 24 2009 – In his inaugural address, President Obama said “to the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect”, yet his opening salvo has been to kill more innocent civilians in yesterday’s missile strikes in Pakistan. This continuation of the Bush policy shows Obama is more a change of style than a change of substance.

In a letter to Pakistan’s Ambassador in London, Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain wrote: “This civilian government, that regularly contrasts its democratic credentials with Musharraf’s military dictatorship is imitating the old regime, flagrantly working against the interests of its own people by aiding a belligerent aggressor that is responsible for a conflict that has displaced 700,000 innocent civilians and has made thousands shaheed.”
“Not only this, but the government is being deceitful in its depiction of a weak Pakistan, unable to check the American attacks.”
“Will we now see the government act on the information that we have provided or else step aside to allow Hizb ut-Tahrir to establish a new sincere leadership to guide the country at this crucial time?”
