WASHINGTON: The United States wants to empower those elements in the Pakistani government and the military who want to cooperate effectively in the war against terror but are prevented by the ISI from doing so, says a senior Pentagon official.

Wednesday, 25 February 2009 – A high level delegation from Hizb ut-Tahrir today attended the offices and presented its demands to the Pakistan High Commission in London.
Delegates included Qasim Ali, from Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain’s Executive Committee and Asif Salahuddin, a senior member of Hizb ut-Tahrir.

ISLAMABAD(Xinhua) — A provincial government in Pakistan has ordered closure of a transportation station for NATO forces based in Afghanistan, a minister told the regional assembly Thursday. The private transportation station to facilitate NATO forces was established on a 12-acre land in Fateh Jang, a town in the eastern Punjab province.

The turmoil over the Supreme Court’s decision to bar the opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, from office worsened after President Zardari dismissed the state government in Punjab and imposed federal rule there. The province had been ruled by Mr Sharif’s party and there were violence clashes as his supporters took to the streets to protest the President’s decision.

BARA, Pakistan: More than 70 United States military advisers and technical specialists are secretly working in Pakistan to help its armed forces battle Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the country’s lawless tribal areas, American military officials said.
